The uniqueness and strength of this soundtrack, Platinum record with roughly 2 million copies sold up till now, consists in including, among its credits, two big men such as Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman. Quite far-off composers as for genre but absolutely forceful and complementary to express the feelings of this film of huge appeal.

After some study of mine and from the CD booklet, I have found out that the some tracks have been composed by Trevor Jones and conducted by Daniel A. Carlin.

The tracks The Kiss and Promentory have been written by Dougie McLean, composer of Celtic, Irish and Scottish music and they are based on his work The Gael edited on the 1990 rare album The Search.

The piece The Glade Part II has been written by Daniel Lanois, former U2 producer, Peter Gabriel and Bob Dylan and it is based on a score called “Orchestral Mohican”.

From the tenth to the fifteenth track of official soundtrack you can appreciate Randy Edelman work with Greig McRitchie scoring.

Finally, a special version of I’ll Find you composed by Clannad used in the scene of General Monroe’s (Grey Hair) daughters transport, differs from the one included in the Clannad album Banba for shortness and language.

It is a true pearl the piece omitted in the official soundtrack called The House in Rose Valley composed by Phil Cunningham (Scottish folk composer) and included in the Air and Graces album.

This piece has been used with masterly skill and just for a few seconds in the scene of Lacrosse and then it fades, echoing on a hoof noise and on a sublime image of a bridge reflected in a sheet of water, while the notes of The British Arrival (from 0.52” in the CD) start and accompany the wonderful scene.The soundtrack have a recent release on Vinyl from Edel Records  GmbH 0209641MCM[2 × Vinyl, LP, 45 RPM, Album, Reissue] and from Real Gone Music [2 × Vinyl, LP,33 1/3, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Sepia-Toned]
